Andres Conde will present pieces from his SOCIAL series. He reimagines covers for the iconic Cuban magazine of the same name, which closed its doors in 1938. He’s running the series through the date of the revolution in 1959 when he will symbolically close the magazine again.
Conde Contemporary, specializing in contemporary Cuban art on and off the island, announced its participation in Art Expo NY today. Art Expo runs from April 23-26 at Pier 94. Tickets are available here. Cuban born artists Andres Conde, Ernesto Capdevila, Darian Rodriguez Mederos, Raiman Rodriguez Moya, and Luis Enrique Toledo de Rio will be on exhibition in booth 369, with a focus on Mederos and Conde. Conde Contemporary will present a group of retratos, or portraits by Darian Rodriguez Mederos, which he’s been working on steadily since arriving from Cuba seven months ago. The work is striking. Mederos captures the soul of his subjects in their penetrative gaze.
