Born in Holguín, Cuba, in 1997, and now living and working in Mexico, Duportai has emerged as one of a new generation of Cuban painters redefining contemporary realism. While rooted in rigorous academic training, his work moves beyond representation to explore memory, perception, intimacy, and the fragile ways we construct meaning from ordinary life.
Painting Memory

Classical Technique, Contemporary Ideas
Duportai studied at the Provincial Academy of Fine Arts Eduardo Abela before graduating from the renowned National Academy of Fine Arts San Alejandro in Havana, one of Latin America's oldest and most respected art institutions.
That academic foundation is evident throughout his work.
His command of light, anatomy, composition, and paint handling recalls the traditions of classical realism, yet his paintings resist straightforward narrative. Loose, gestural passages often exist beside meticulously resolved details. Figures dissolve into abstraction before reappearing with startling clarity.
Rather than demonstrating technical virtuosity for its own sake, Duportai uses technique to evoke emotional uncertainty, allowing paintings to exist somewhere between the visible world and remembered experience.

Although still early in his career, Duportai's work has already been exhibited internationally in Cuba, Mexico, France, Italy, the United States, and elsewhere, including presentations at the PAN Museum of Contemporary Art in Naples. His paintings are increasingly recognized for combining exceptional draftsmanship with an unmistakably contemporary sensibility.
Living in Mexico, he continues to expand both the scale and ambition of his work while remaining committed to the themes that have defined his practice from the beginning.
